Soyez les bienvenues • Ici on parle français

Is your dog an important part of your vacation plans?  If you're like us, then many of your trips are built around the hiking and activities that you can do with your canine friend.   Did you know that four out of 10 households have a dog in the US?  Or that over 49 percent of U.S. adult leisure travelers consider their pet to be part of the family and 18 percent of U.S. adult leisure travelers usually take their pets with them when they travel.  I couldn't find the statistics for young family travelers but it would be easy to guess that they travel with their dogs at even higher numbers.

At Searsport Shores, we want ALL our guests to be comfortable...those who travel with their dogs, those who prefer that dogs keep their distance and the dogs who are just trying to keep everyone happy.  Without question, a well exercised, well socialized dog is a better camping companion.  With this in mine, we recently built a Dog Park for those who want to spend some off-leash time with their pet(s) in a safe and fun environment.  It's a completely fenced in, shaded place where you can play, picnic and socialize with other campers and 4 legged friends in a comfortable and safe setting.

The Dog Aquarium is a completely fenced (5 feet high and the bottom is buried into the ground), off-leash dog park with double gates for Searsport Shores camping guests. It is open during daylight hours and the posted aquarium rules apply to everyone.   You'll find drinking water and kiddie pool inside the fence and while we provide poop bags, it's always best if you carry a few of your own.  Well behaved dogs are also welcome on the walking trails, on leash.  Check with the office for other great daytrip ideas for hiking and exploring.

Aside from the posted rules at the dog aquarium, we ask everyone coming into the park to follow these policies:

1.  Stay with your dog at all times...if you go out of the park, your dog must go with you~ period.

2. Clean up after your dog...immediately.

3.  Keep your companion on a short leash and under control at all times unless you're playing in the Aquarium...and then he/she must respond appropriately to verbal commands.

4.  Disrupting your neighbor's peace with excessive whining or barking will not be tolerated...actually, this is a condition for all guests, regardless of leg count.

5.  Have proof of Rabies and vaccination shots available in your camper.

6.  Your guests (those visiting registered campers) may not bring pets into the park...there are enough here already.

7.  One dog is considered part of your "camping unit", two dogs can be allowed with prior permission...but the only way to bring three dogs into the park is to rent a second campsite and have a serious talk with us (in advance) about how you intend to manage following all of the above policies.
