Floor Cloth Weekend w/ Peggy Clark Lumpkins

Learn to paint a floorcloth, June 14 - 15, 2003 10:00AM-4:00 PM

During the late 1700’s floorcloths were a popular way for Seafaring families to cover floors and decorate homes. Today with the imagination of contemporary artists, the designs, shapes and styles of floorcloths are limitless. They are made from heavy gauge canvas with many layers of paint and sealed with an acrylic sealer for protection.

Students will create a finished, 24"x 36" floorcloth. Participants may either paint from their own imagery or follow the instructor as she demonstrates several designs and techniques to create a beautiful floorcloth full of color and texture. This workshop will be exciting for both experienced and novice painters. Working with a variety of non-traditional painting tools, students will produce beautiful floorcloths that are unique to their creative spirit, regardless of their painting or drawing experience.
