Monhegan Island Light, Monhegan Island. First built during the administration of President James Monroe. The keeper’s house is now a museum documenting the history of the island.
Rockland Breakwater Light, Rockland. Located at the end of a mile-long, granite block breakwater, this is a favorite spot to fish for mackerel , or to just stroll and enjoy the views of Penobscot Bay and the Camden Hills. If the tide is high and the waves are choppy, you may get wet feet.
Owls Head Light, Owls Head. On the Rockland Harbor. It sits on a rocky cliff 100 feet above sea, a picturesque favorite. The grounds, made up of rocky beaches and fir woods, are ideal for picnicking and scanning West Penobscot Bay, the Muscle Ridge Channel and many islands.
Fort Point Light, Stockton Springs. In Fort Point State park. Tours available
Castine Light House, Castine. Privately owned with lovely, public pathway down to the water’s edge.
Bass Harbor Head Light, Mount Desert Island. In 1858, during the presidency of James Buchanan, this light was established to mark the entrance to Blue Hill Bay on MDI’s west side and to guide vessels in and out of Bass Harbor. Each year, 1000’s of visitors to Acadia National Park photograph this lighthouse in its rocky, picturesque setting.
Pemaquid Point Light, Pemiquid Point. A great day trip through pituresque towns 90 minutes South of Searsport Shores.

Fort Knox, Prospect. A fortification that was built just prior to the Civil War and named for General Henry Knox. It makes a great outing for families, both to roam through the dark tunnels of the fort and see the cannons that were never fired in battle. Picnic at the outdoor tables overlooking Penboscot River. 469.7719

Holbrook Island Sanctuary, Brooksville . 1,345 acres. On the shore of Penobscot Bay, plus a 115 acre island just off shore. (cruise from Belfast on The Balmy Days). Nature trails and picnicking. 326.4012.
